'Nineteen Minutes'. It made me realise the fact that everyone needs love. To a vast majority of the world, the center of the world revolves around them, in the sense that what you do benefits yourself, even if you don't like it, even if doing it repulses you. Essentially if you choose to do something, there's always an aspect of it that works in your favour.
In doing so, you may forget that the people around you are very much affected by what you do. If you choose to lie to your parents, the benefit is that you get to hide some dark dank secret. Your parents however have fallen into a trap. They have an image of you that is false, even intangible.
Ugliness.
In the world of high school (maybe not so much in Up Lands but more in places like the US), where appearance, popularity or relationships are things that everyone stays conscious of- that little voice that for some reason can keep you awake in throughout the night- people try. They do it day after day after day, with more effort than they would ever use academically, to follow trends, to keep up with social events, to gossip and giggle. Everyone has a nasty side to them.
People behave without thinking of what the consequences of their actions are. Or even if they do think about it, they wouldn't give a damn. People behave without ever thinking about the long term effect of their actions, because technically speaking, it doesn't concern them. It concerns someone whom they place no importance to, and who is hence inferior to them.
There is a very fine line involved in understanding and relating to people. Its so easy to cross that sometimes you wonder if someone didn't just move it and place it right in front of you to fall. Most people fall without ever realising it. Most people fall without their falling bothering them.
But when you fall, if you don't land on the floor, you'll definitely have landed on someone. Squashed them even, and crushed that delicate human strength that's supposed to get them through the day.
Kindness. Just a little kindness. Is it really so difficult. Is it really so necessary for you to flaunt YOUR feelings, YOUR opinions, YOUR actions. Does the world always have to revolve around you.
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control. Against such there is no law.
Can you imagine living in a Utopian society where everyone follows this code of conduct, not forcedly, but by choice?
They call it heaven.
