SOmeone once said that happiness is fleeting. Unstable. I'd say i agree.

I say that friendships are often fleeting. Though it depends on what you consider friendship. Interaction? A relationship? A mutual understanding?

Imagine the following scenario:

It is a cold day. There hasn't been a slightly glimmer of sun for the past two weeks. And now the rain has come. Thick sheets of rain that pelt the skin with a force so great you can even hear the impact of each individual drop, feel it like a needle piercing through your pores, distinguishing bone and marrow, before finally coagulating around your toes in your soggy socks. The vast wasteland is empty. There is no shelter, only one crevice in a cliff that you spot from the corner of your eye. So you dash. And as you dash, you sense a presence beside you. A person. Running in the vindictive rain. Splashing through water the way ducks splash in a pond. You reach the shelter simultaneously. And pause. A minute passes spent looking into each other's eyes. And then you simultaneously squeeze together into the crevice. You can feel the heat that radiates from the warmth of the other being. There is no alternative.
Is that person your friend? Is an enemy ever a friend?
